US: Sanctions against Russia to hit Washington as well

WASHINGTON, Feb 16 (PRIME) -- Sanctions against Russia in case of an aggression towards Ukraine would affect the U.S. as well, U.S. President Joe Biden said in an address to the nation on Wednesday.

Biden said that if Russia decides to invade Ukraine, the repercussions are certain to affect the U.S. and influence the American people directly, telling them he was not going to “pretend this will be painless” and that they would feel it at the petrol pump.

The Western countries have been accusing Russia of hostile actions towards Ukraine and militarization of the Russia–Ukraine border and threatened Moscow with harsh sanctions in the event of a direct military confrontation. However, Russia has repeatedly rebuked the allegations and stated that it’s the NATO that advances towards the Russian border and incites hostility, sending troops and weaponry to Ukraine and refusing to force Kiev into following the internationally-recognized Minsk agreements.
